Enhancing Mediation (and Life!) with Emotional Intelligence A Continuing Legal Education Presentation Hosted by the Christian Legal Society
Synopsis: This seminar will provide insights into: (1) when and how to facilitate legal mediation; (2) an introduction to faith-based mediation systems (Muslim, Jewish, Christian); (3) how to use legally enforceable conciliation clauses in contracts, trusts and wills to ensure that clients resolve disputes through mediation or arbitration rather than litigation; (4) and introduction to four respected mediation models; (5) fifteen roles that an attorney can play during a mediation process; (6) methods for improving and applying emotional intelligence to mediation, the practice of law, and personal and family life; (7) methods for applying emotional intelligence to build passport with clients and secure agreements that satisfy all parties; (8) how to assist clients in effective interest-based negotiations; (9) how law firms can provide staff-wide relational/peacemaking training that can improve their firms’ innovation, team work, productivity and profitability; and (10) how Christian attorneys can help their churches to establish "Peace Sower Teams" that provide their congregations with in-house training, coaching and conciliation services.
The course includes 20-page study guide and 3 hours of video training sessions.
Continuing Legal Education Credit
This training was presented for the Christian Legal Society chapter in Columbus, Ohio, in 2019 and was approved for three hours of continuing legal education credit. It has also been approved for CLE credit when taught live at Christian Legal Society conferences and for Christian law firms. Your Instructor
Ken Sande is the founder of Peacemaker Ministries and RW360. Trained as an engineer, lawyer and mediator, Ken has conciliated hundreds of family, business, church and legal conflicts. He is the author of numerous articles and books, including The Peacemaker, which has sold over 500,000 copies in twenty languages. He teaches internationally on biblical peacemaking, Christian conciliation and relational wisdom, which is an enhanced form of emotional intelligence that helps people “get upstream of conflict” by improving their ability to read and manage emotions in themselves and others. These resources are being used to strengthen relationships, promote teamwork and reduce and resolve conflict in churches, families, businesses, schools and military bases around the world. Ken is a Certified Emotional Intelligence Instructor and a Certified Relational Wisdom Conciliator, Coach and Instructor. He has served as a church elder, an Editorial Advisor for Christianity Today, Certified Professional Engineer and as a member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of the Montana Bar Association.
